Street Rider Course (SRC)
The SRC is taught ON THE STREET while riding YOUR motorcycle. It is the link between the closed course (BRC) and the real world of street riding for those who just are not yet fully comfortable to ride the street alone. The SRC is available to people who already have their own motorcycle and a motorcycle license and would like to experience riding on the street while being guided and instructed by a certified SRC RiderCoach. The course is broken up into 2 parts and can be taught over one or two days. The SRC will help you achieve the comfort and confidence required so that riding on the road is enjoyable and safe.

F.A.Q.
Who should take the SRC?
Riders who wish to increase their knowledge of street strategies and improve techniques for managing risk. Recent graduates of a formal learn-to-ride course as well as riders of any experience level can benefit. The SRC also is a safety renewal opportunity, meaning riders can refresh their thinking about riding and risk.
What are SRC prerequisites?
Any licensed rider may enroll in the course. It is helpful if riders have recently completed the MSF Basic Rider Course and/or the Experienced Rider Course. Recent experience, at least parking lot type practice, is encouraged. A valid license to ride a motorcycle is required. It is best if students ride their personal motorcycle. Personal motorcycles must be street legal (inspected, licensed, registered and insured).
What protective gear must be worn by SRC riders?
- A full face or three-quarter helmet designed to meet DOT standards
- Proper eye protection
- Over-the-ankle footwear
- Protective jacket, preferably with armor
- Long, non-flare denim pants or material of equivalent or better durability
- Full fingered gloves, preferably leather
What is the focus of an SRC?
The focus of the course is on strategies for identifying and responding to typical riding situations in multiple riding environments. Students are exposed to lane positioning for visibility and space cushion, situational awareness, and proper cornering process. There is an emphasis to think like a safety-minded, responsible rider who uses aggressive vision and gives full attention to the riding task.
What do the routes include?
The SRC consists of three pre-approved, MSF-recognized routes. Each has one or more segments with safety related discussions of experiences and rider-specific coaching. Routes are progressively more challenging and start with lower-speed areas and move to suburban areas with multiple lane roadways, city streets and expressways.
Is any prior, formal training required for participants?
No. Riders are encouraged to take the MSF Basic Rider Course and Advanced Rider Courses at some point. Some students may not be ready for the SRC even if they already have a motorcycle endorsement. The RiderCoach determines suitability based on Skill Practice Time and the SRC Qualifying Skill Test. Safety is the primary consideration and riders may remove themselves from the course. Also, RiderCoaches may counsel out a rider if he or she is deemed unsafe or incapable of continuing.
Who conducts the training?
Specially trained and certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoaches who have extensive coaching and riding experience conduct the course
